Female Firsts After 50: 5 Women Receive Nation’s Top Honor

An eclectic group of women with a whole lot of WHOA! received the nation’s highest civilian honor – the Presidential Medal of Freedom. We are so proud of country music legend Loretta Lynn, journalist and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey, women’s rights activist Gloria Steinem, the first U.S. woman to travel to space, the late Sally Ride, and the first woman appointed to theĀ U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Patricia Wald.
